Singapore plans to accelerate the opening of berths at the new large port in the National

Tuas Industrial Zone of this city to meet the increasing demand for cargo ships.

In addition to the existing eight berths on the north side of Tuas Port, the port operator

Port Group will accelerate the opening of three new berths later this year to improve

the overall processing capacity of the port.

The Maritime and Port Authority (MPA) of Singapore and port operator PSA are

working closely with liner operators and regional branch operators to provide them

with the latest berth availability and offer them advice on arrival times to minimize berthing delays.

By the 1940s, all container port operations in Singapore will be integrated in Tuas,

with an estimated annual throughput of 65 million TEUs.

Alphaliner pointed out that the south side of Tuas Port received the first batch of cranes in March,

and the approximately 1000 meter pier and 8 cranes should be ready soon.

In May of this year, during the most congested period, no ships had ever docked at the new port,

except for Hapag Lloyd's latest 24000 TEU ship, Singapore Express,

which was named on the berth and did not load or unload any cargo.

However, this week, Alphaliner registered the first batch of calls on the south side of Tuas 1,

mainly from smaller vessels such as MSC Tania handling 2732 TEU in mid June.

From January to May, Singapore's container ship throughput increased by 13% year-on-year.

In January this year, nearly 2000 container ships arrived in Singapore.

MPA helped to increase weekly throughput from 770000 TEUs to 820000 TEUs by reopening

the closed Keppel terminal, thereby eliminating bottlenecks.
