Urgent attention! Domestic ports are congested before the holiday, affecting the export of goods

As the Spring Festival approaches, several major ports in China have experienced severe congestion, with about 2000 containers stranded in ports due to nowhere to stack them. It has had a significant impact on logistics transportation, foreign trade exports, and port operations.
According to the latest data, the cargo throughput and container throughput of multiple domestic ports reached a historical high before the holiday. However, due to the approaching Spring Festival holiday, many factories and enterprises have started to take a break, resulting in reduced demand for goods transportation and congestion at ports. Especially in major domestic ports such as Ningbo Zhoushan Port, Shanghai Port, and Tangshan Port, due to their huge cargo throughput, congestion is particularly severe.
At Ningbo Zhoushan Port, the cargo throughput has exceeded 1.268 billion tons, and the container throughput has also reached 36.145 million TEUs, with significant year-on-year growth. However, due to limited capacity of port yards and reduced transportation demand during the Spring Festival, a large number of containers cannot be unloaded and stacked in a timely manner. According to port staff, about 2000 containers have been stranded at the port due to nowhere to stack them, which has brought considerable pressure to the normal operation of the port.
Similarly, Shanghai Port is also facing similar challenges. As one of the ports with the largest container throughput in the world, Shanghai Port also experienced severe congestion before the holiday. Although the port has taken a series of measures to alleviate congestion, the problem of congestion is still difficult to effectively solve in a short period of time due to the huge volume of goods.
In addition to Ningbo Zhoushan Port and Shanghai Port, other major ports such as Qingdao Port and Guangzhou Port have also experienced varying degrees of congestion. The congestion at these ports not only affects the normal transportation of goods, but also poses significant challenges to foreign trade exports. Due to the inability to export goods in a timely manner, some foreign trade enterprises are facing the risk of delivery delays, and may even lose customers and markets as a result.
In response to this issue, the Ministry of Transport and local governments have taken a series of measures to alleviate port congestion. On the one hand, by optimizing port operation processes and increasing yard capacity, the processing capacity of the port can be enhanced; On the other hand, strengthen communication and coordination with relevant enterprises and departments to jointly cope with the transportation peak before the holiday.
Experts also suggest that port planning and construction should be further strengthened to improve the overall operational capacity and efficiency of ports. At the same time, strengthen cooperation and exchanges with other countries and regions to jointly address challenges and opportunities in global trade.
Although the congestion of domestic ports before the holiday has brought significant challenges to logistics transportation and foreign trade exports, we believe that with the joint efforts of all parties, this problem will be effectively solved. With the continuous improvement of port operation capabilities and the continuous development of global trade, we are expected to see a more efficient, convenient, and safe port transportation system.
