The container volume at Auckland Port for international shipping has significantly increased

Last month, the container volume at Auckland Port increased significantly, with 202816 TEUs passing through its facilities, an increase of 19.1% compared to March 2023.

The import activity at Auckland Port has maintained an upward trend for the fifth consecutive month, with a growth of 38.4% compared to March 2023. The port operator processed 83483 complete TEUs in March 2024, the highest record since August 2022. This growth is attributed to the increase in consumer income and net assets in the major markets of Northern California, which has boosted import demand.

At the same time, comprehensive exports increased by 14.8% compared to March last year, maintaining growth for four consecutive months. In March 2024, Auckland Port transported a total of 75352 TEUs, which is the highest monthly total of all outbound goods from Auckland Port since April 2021.

In addition, air imports experienced an 11.9% growth, reaching 20254 TEUs in March 2024, higher than 18097 TEUs in March 2023. On the contrary, air exports decreased by 9.5%, from 23728 TEUs in February 2024 to 26225 TEUs in March 2023.
