The freight volume of Los Angeles Port increased significantly in January 2024
In January of this year, Port of Los Angeles processed 855652 TEUs, making it the second best start of the year on record.
The California port stated that this achievement is second only to the surge in cargo caused by the 2022 pandemic, reflecting the port's sustained year-on-year growth momentum for six consecutive months.
It is worth noting that the trading volume in January increased by 18% compared to the same period last year.
Last month, the total import volume of the port was 441763 TEUs, a year-on-year increase of 19%. In addition, there were 126554 TEUs loaded for export, an increase of 23% compared to last year. In addition, the Los Angeles port processed 287336 empty containers, an increase of 14% from 2023.
"There are two factors driving our strong start. Firstly, shippers have been replenishing inventory and quickly transporting goods before the Lunar New Year holiday, which will slow down production in Asia. Secondly, consumer spending and strong economic data continue to accelerate the US economy," said Gene Seroka, Executive Director of Los Angeles Port.
