In January 2024, the available international air freight capacity increased by 14.6% year-on-year!
According to data from the International Air Transport Association, the cargo tonnage per kilometer (CTK) increased in January, with a year-on-year increase of 14.6% in available capacity. As the market continued to increase belly space, the cargo occupancy rate increased by 1.4 percentage points, reaching 45.7%. The cargo volume of North American airlines increased by 9.3%.
The International Air Transport Association stated that airlines in the region have benefited from the growth of North America Asia routes (+17.1%) and North America Europe routes (+3.5%).
Driven by demand within Europe and Eurasian routes, European airlines saw a 16.4% increase in air cargo volume in January.
Middle Eastern airlines performed the strongest in January 2024, with a year-on-year increase of 25.9% in cargo volume.
The International Air Transport Association stated, "Airlines in the region have benefited from growth in the Middle East Asia (+29.5%) and Middle East Europe markets (+46.1%)."
Compared to January 2023, Latin American airlines saw a 13.4% increase in cargo volume, while African airlines saw a 17% increase in air cargo volume.
In January 2024, there was a significant improvement compared to December's performance (-1.2%). The airlines in the region have benefited from the strong growth of Asia Africa trade routes. The transportation capacity in January is 19.4% higher than the level in January 2023.
