Attention! This port in the United States will cease container operations in October
According to multiple US media reports, due to financial difficulties, the Port of Portland has decided to cease its container business in October.
The main ports in Oregon seem to be facing financial difficulties, as agreements with third-party operators have not yet been completed. Portland Port has stated that it cannot afford to open container terminals until September.
According to OPB data, the Port of Portland has suffered losses of over $30 million in the past three years, including an expected shortfall of $14 million this year.
Keith Leavitt, Chief Trade and Economic Development Officer of Portland Port, wrote in an email to industry stakeholders, "We know that this terminal is an important asset across the state - proposing a financially sustainable business model for container services is worth further discussion, as it requires more national funding and investment." He added, "Currently, we have no financial options and must take this step."
