Lufthansa Cargo Airlines' winter flight plan is here!
Lufthansa Cargo is increasing its cargo flights to Mexico and Asia as these two destinations still have "attractiveness" and "economic strength".
When announcing the cargo airline's winter flight plans, Ashwin Bhat, the company's CEO, acknowledged the difficult market situation, but added that there were also opportunities as the company increased its cargo capacity.
Bhat said, "The air cargo market is and still is unstable, but Asia and Mexico are still attractive and economically strong regions for us
The additional capacity of our 17th Boeing 777F long-distance fleet provides us with the opportunity to specifically adjust flight services to meet the needs of these market customers
The airline's latest 777F aircraft will be delivered for use by the end of this year, while another Airbus A321 cargo plane will be put into use in September.
A321 will increase the airline's medium and short haul cargo fleet to four.
In its long-distance freight network, the airline plans to increase the frequency of flights to Tel Aviv, Cairo, Hong Kong, and Mexico City.
Newly added to the itinerary are Riyadh and Taipei.
Starting from October, Lufthansa Cargo will operate three B777 cargo flights per week to Tel Aviv and Cairo.
In Asia, flights to Hong Kong (HKG) will increase from 6 to 7 per week, passing through Mumbai (BOM).
The two weekly new flights from Frankfurt to Taipei (TPE) via Riyadh (RUH) will be added to the airline's current flight plan in November.
The airline said, "Taipei will become part of the global airline network for the first time, while Riyadh has been served by Lufthansa Cargo until 2020
Due to "stable demand", the airline will increase the weekly freight flights to Mexico City (NLU) from 6 to 7 in this year's winter flight plan.
The airline explained, "In July, all cargo flights were transferred to Felipe Á ngeles International Airport (NLU) and many infrastructure measures were established, including truck shuttle services, to ensure the fast and reliable transfer of goods between the Mexico City (MEX) airport and Felipe Á ngeles (NLU), which currently only have passengers as cargo airports
So far this year, Lufthansa Cargo, like other companies in the industry, has been facing a difficult market environment, despite claiming to have "overall outperformed the market" as the average yield in the second quarter of this year is still 40% higher than the level in 2019.
During this period, airlines benefited from the recovery of passenger flight belly capacity, with demand increasing by 2.1% against the backdrop of capacity growth of 8.8%.
